Erastus Dean Culver (March 15, 1803 – October 13, 1889) was a U.S. Representative from New York. ==Early life and start of career== Culver was born in Champlain, New York on March 15, 1803.〔University of Vermont Alumni Association, (University of Vermont Obituary Record ), Volume 1, 1895, page 41〕 He graduated from the University of Vermont in 1826, taught school, and studied law.〔University of Vermont, (General Catalogue of the University of Vermont ), 1901, page 50〕〔Frederic Lathrop Colver, (Colver-Culver Genealogy: Descendants of Edward Colver ), 1910, page 163〕 He was admitted to the bar in 1831 and commenced practice in Fort Ann, New York. A Whig, from 1833 to 1835 Culver served as Fort Ann's Town Clerk.〔William L. He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1838 and 1841.〔Edgar A. Werner, (The New York Civil List ), 1888, pages 396, 398〕 In 1844 he was elected to Congress, and he served one term, March 4, 1845 to March 4, 1847.
